Editorial policy
The rules this site holds itself to, written down so they can be held against it.
Sourcing
- Numbers get a source. Any specific figure — a price, a battery life, an agreement percentage — is either measured by us under the published protocol or attributed to a named source the reader can check.
- Primary sources over summaries. Where a peer-reviewed study exists, it is cited rather than an article describing it. Where only a manufacturer's own validation exists, that is stated explicitly on the page — as it is on tracker accuracy.
- Prices are dated. Pricing in this category changes constantly. Every price on this site carries the month it was checked, and pages where prices go stale fastest are deliberately built around structure rather than exact figures.
- Uncertainty is stated, not smoothed. Where evidence is thin, contested or absent, the page says so. "Nobody has established this" is a permitted conclusion and appears in several places.
Health content
Parts of this site touch on health, and that carries obligations beyond ordinary product reviewing.
- Nothing here is medical advice. No page diagnoses, prescribes or recommends treatment. The diagnostics section exists to help readers have better-informed conversations with clinicians, not to replace them.
- Mechanisms are separated from marketing. Where a product claims a benefit, the page distinguishes between the underlying physiology, the evidence that the product acts on it, and the evidence that this produces a real-world outcome. Those three things are routinely conflated in this category and they are kept apart here.
- Symptoms get pointed at doctors. Where content touches something that could be a medical problem — persistent unrefreshing sleep, observed breathing pauses, abnormal lab results, new night sweats — the page says to see a clinician rather than offering a purchase.
- No supplements. This site does not review supplements. The category's evidence base does not support meaningful comparative reviewing, and the reasoning is set out on the homepage.
Independence
- No manufacturer receives copy approval, fact-check rights or advance sight of a conclusion.
- No review is published in exchange for payment, hardware, access or an embargo.
- Supplied hardware is disclosed in the first screen of the review and returned or its value donated afterwards.
- Affiliate commission rates are checked only after conclusions are written. Full detail in the affiliate disclosure.
- Products that pay no commission are recommended where they are the better choice, and this happens on more than one page.
Use of AI tools
AI tools may be used for research assistance, drafting support, copy editing and code. They are not used to generate factual claims that go unverified, to invent test results, to fabricate quotes or user experiences, or to produce pages nobody has read. Every factual statement published here is checked against a source by a human before it appears. No page on this site is unreviewed machine output — and where test data does not yet exist, the page says so rather than filling the gap.
Corrections
- Errors are corrected on the page, with a dated note at the foot of the article. Silent edits to factual claims are not made.
- Material corrections are logged on the about page so the record is visible in one place.
- Where a conclusion changes because a product improved, the previous conclusion stays visible alongside the new one, with both dates. A review that quietly rewrites its own history is not a review.
- Raw testing exports are available on request to anyone who wants to check the arithmetic.
Updating
Every review carries a "last updated" date. Pages are revisited when a manufacturer ships a significant firmware or algorithm change, when pricing or subscription structure changes, or when new validation research is published. In this category, an algorithm update can change a device's reported numbers without changing the hardware at all — which is why the update date matters as much as the publication date.
Complaints
If you believe something here is wrong, unfair or insufficiently disclosed, write and say so. Contact details are on the about page. Manufacturers get the same channel as readers and no more.
